Citrus requirements more strict
REQUIREMENTS CITRUS MORE STRICT
The European Parliament (EP) have agreed with a resolution in which the demands and requirements for importation of CITRUS Fruit in Europe have become more strict.
The EP wants that countries that export Citrus to Europe carry out a Cold Treatment. This all is the result of the African Fruit Moth.
Another effective treatment will also be allowed but it has to be approved by the Committee first (EFSA Evaluation). As long as this is not approved, only Cold Treatment is accepted.
In practice it could mean IMPORT STOP. The Committee is not obliged to implement the advise of the EP as per January 2017 but it is an important signal.
The Dutch Trade Bureau for Fruit and Vegetables is working hard to avoid these new measures.
